Rungne Chalk – Magdust vs Super Dry: What’s the Difference?

If you’ve climbed with me, you know I don’t compromise on chalk. I’ve tried plenty of brands over the years, but nothing has felt as consistent or confidence-boosting as Rúngne.

As a Rungne affiliate, I’ve had the chance to use both of their chalk types extensively: Magdust and Magdust Super Dry. Here’s my take.

Magdust – The Everyday Workhorse

This is your go-to chalk. Magdust is Rungne’s signature formula: a perfect blend of chunk and powder that gives great grip without destroying your skin. I use this for most indoor sessions and moderate outdoor temps.

  • Balanced drying power

  • Skin-friendly — less cracking or dryness

  • Ideal for long sessions or frequent use

Magdust Super Dry – When It Matters Most

On humid days, greasy holds, or comp settings, this is the one. Super Dry does exactly what it says: it locks out moisture fast. It’s noticeably drier than the regular version and is perfect when your hands just won’t stop sweating.

  • Maximum drying power

  • Lasts longer between chalk-ups

  • My go-to for outdoor projecting or sweaty gym days

Why I Stick with Rungne

Both types of chalk stay on, feel clean, and help me climb with confidence. And yeah, they come in resealable, minimalist bags that don’t spill everywhere in your bag, I mean, this won’t be an issue if you have the lovely Rúngne chalk bags (Link below)

I’m proud to be a Rungne affiliate, and I genuinely recommend their chalk to any climber who takes grip seriously.
